Perth Linux Users' Group

What is PLUG?

PLUG is the Perth Linux Users' Group, an association of people interested in Linux. We aim to promote Linux and support the users of Linux in Perth, Western Australia.

Linux is a free computer operating system. It runs on a large variety of computer hardware, and can be used for many purposes including desktop machines, small embedded systems and Internet servers. You can find more information about Linux itself on the Linux International and the Linux Australia web sites. The Linux Documentation Project is also a good place to find general information about Linux.

Mailing list

One of the main forms of communication between PLUG members is our e-mail list. The list is a good way to get help if you're new to Linux, and also a good place for general discussion—both technical and social—regarding Linux and related topics.

Next event — May PLUG Seminar

Title: "LDAP for Popular People and Sysadmins"
When: Tuesday, 13th May 2008, 7:30pm - 9:00pm.
Where: 'Futuresphere', Christ Church Grammar School, Queenslea Drive, Claremont
Presenter: Ritchie Young

LDAP is the standard protocol for storing and accessing identity information. OpenLDAP is a high-performance, hugely scalable implementation of this important standard that you can install on your (Linux based) server or laptop in about 3 minutes. Whether you need to provide access control for a large organisation or store the contact details for a couple of million close, personal friends, OpenLDAP can help.

In this introductory talk, Ritchie will show you how to configure OpenLDAP on Linux and talk about where it fits with other identity management technologies.

Ritchie is a developer and systems integrator. He is also the author of the RubySync provisioning system (http://rubysync.org).
